Wonderful wildlife
My husband and I have been enjoying sitting on our front porch in the late afternoon. The finches, both yellow and purple ones, are still busy swooping down the the thistle feeders. The bluebirds, now with four babies, wait patiently for me to bring them more meal worms, and we watch cardinals, doves and nuthatches. We do get an occasional hummingbird, but have also seen a woodpecker sucking nectar from the hummer's feeder. We also watched cat Rover observe rabbits running through the yard. So he positioned himself (all 20 pounds) near the thicket from which the rabbits had come. They must have seen him waiting for them because they circled around and danced behind him before dashing off into the lettuce patch. Rover never noticed them.
We've had delicious peas and cherry tomatoes from the garden. Not many strawberries this year. Sugar has lots of apples on her trees and we plan to pick blackberries in another week or so, if the birds don't get them first. Bailey said she would be happy to help me weed, but she's been very busy at Keswick Inn lately.
